Do I need trip insurance?

Whether or not to get trip protection depends on various factors such as the cost of your trip, your personal circumstances, and your risk tolerance. Here are some considerations to help you decide:

  1. Cost of the Trip

If you've invested a significant amount of money into your trip (such as for flights, accommodations, tours), trip protection can provide financial reimbursement if you need to cancel or interrupt your trip due to unforeseen circumstances.

  2. Cancellation Policies

Check the cancellation policies of your bookings (flights, hotels, activities). Trip protection can cover non-refundable expenses if you have to cancel for covered reasons (e.g., illness, family emergency).

  3. Health and Safety

Consider your health and any potential risks during your trip. Trip protection may include medical coverage and emergency evacuation, which can be crucial depending on your destination and your health insurance coverage.

  4. Travel Itinerary

If your trip involves multiple bookings and connections, there's a higher risk of disruptions (e.g., missed connections, flight delays). Trip protection can provide assistance and coverage for these situations.

  5. Personal Circumstances

Evaluate your personal situation and assess how vulnerable you might be to unexpected events that could disrupt your travel plans.

  6. Coverage Details

Read the fine print of the trip protection policy to understand exactly what is covered and under what conditions. Not all policies are the same, so ensure it meets your needs.

In summary, if your trip is expensive, involves non-refundable bookings, or if you have concerns about potential disruptions, trip protection can provide peace of mind and financial protection. It's important to weigh the cost of the coverage against the potential benefits it offers based on your individual circumstances.

Passports are required for international travel and for all air departures to or from the United States. Passports must be valid for six months after the completion of travel and contain enough blank pages for entry and exit endorsements and any required visas. Names on passports and the booking must match. The Department of State  has information on foreign visas and well as travel advisories issued for certain countries, which may be included in your itinerary.
