Top Five Travel Destinations on the Pacific Coast of Mexico

Charming little towns line Mexico's Pacific Coast. These major beach destinations are a premier destination for sun-filled fun. It has everything from luxury beach resorts to sleepy seaside towns with boutique hotels. Here are the top ten unmissable spots along Mexico's Pacific Coast.

#1 Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco

Puerto Vallarta is an internationally famous tourist destination for its nightlife, cobblestone streets, and beaches. Malecón (boardwalk) includes shops, restaurants, and art installations. Visitors can explore the surrounding jungle-topped mountains; there are world-class dining and whale-watching tours in Banderas Bay.

#2 Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur

Cabo San Lucas is a playground for luxury travelers, adventure seekers, and beach bums. Cabo is famous for its breathtaking rock formations at Land's End, including the Arch. It is also a hot spot for snorkeling, fishing, and whale watching. On our last visit in January 2024, we spotted at least a hundred whales! One whale even breached multiple times in front of us-I really did get it on video!

Famous for it’s luxury resorts, Cabo is meant to be traveled in style!  Choosing the best resort is so important because you can stay either in Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo. I have stayed in both and enjoyed them both, but I really loved San Jose!

#3 Sayulita, Nayarit

This cute town on the Riviera Nayarit attracts its share of surfers, artists, and sun worshippers. Known for its laid-back bohemian atmosphere filled with shops, street art, and an active square. Surfing is a big draw, but visitors flock to yoga retreats, artisan markets, and whale-watching tours. My cousin and I rode horses on the beach and had a wonderful time!

#4 Huatulco, Oaxaca

Huatulco is an untouched gem of nine bays and 36 beaches. It is a well-known region for eco-tourism and sustainable development—boat tours to the bays, snorkeling on coral reefs, or hiking in nearby national parks.

#5 La Paz, Baja California Sur

You’ll love the idea of La Paz! A mellow little seaside town laden with natural beauty. The beautiful sandy beaches bordering the Sea of Cortez make it easy to access its crystal clear blue waters, where you can snorkel, swim, and kayak with the sea lions at Isla Espiritu Santo, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

No matter where you choose, The Pacific Coast of Mexico offers a treasure trove of unforgettable travel memories. These destinations range from luxurious resorts and busy towns to quiet, secluded beaches, giving you a bit of everything.

So, whether you are looking for some thrills, a laid-back paradise spot—or a blend of both—this spot will surely delight and inspire.
